How This Good Deed Was Inspired
During the Holy Week of Easter 2022, I felt the love of God in such a way that I went on a blessing spree: I baked 24 apple tartlets and offered them to some of my colleagues. And the Holy Spirit commanded me to give an apple tartlet to Ms. Love, a social studies teacher at one of the Boston Public Schools, where I teach science. I paused and said, “She may not like it.”
“She can give it to someone else if she doesn’t like it.”
I reflected on the message and obeyed God’s command. Ms. Love was standing in from of her classroom during lunch break when I approached her.
“I have something for you,”I said.
“This is for me?”
“Yes, but I don’t know if you would like it.”
“I need something sweet to break Ramadan fasting this evening; this is perfect.”
“Oh! You’re a practicing Muslim? I didn’t know that. Enjoy it!”
As I was driving home after work, I became emotional, and my eyes welled up with tears. “I thank You, Lord God Almighty for commanding me to bless a Muslim sister, someone who is from a different religious affiliation.”
The following day Ms. Love came to my classroom to thank me and tell me how much she enjoyed the desert.
“I’m glad you liked it,” I said.
“I loved it!”
“This is the beginning of something bigger than you and me,” I said.
“You don’t have to give me anything in return. Find a Christian sister and a Jewish sister and bless them each year during their Holy month of
celebration. I’m Christian and I pledge to bless you and your family each year during Ramadan. I’ll repeat the same act of kindness with a Jewish family to make the Tree of Blessing grow and bear fruit. Stay blessed.”
“That’s a divine calling, and I want to be part of it. Thank you so much Ms. L.”
“My pleasure!”
